The Heartbeat of the Hands: David Stark and the Art of Gathering

Before David Stark designed events, he was a painter, and he still thinks of each project as a three-dimensional painting you can walk into. He began with flowers, arranging them by hand to support his painting, then opened his palette to everything else: paper, cardboard, books, bread, fruit, and the ordinary objects of daily life. Today his Brooklyn, New York studio is a bustling workshop of woodworkers, painters, florists, textile artists, fabricators, inventors, designers and producers who build every table and room and exquisite detail by hand for museums, concert halls, and brands, often for one single evening.
